About the role

As a Technical Architect, you are the agency's most senior technical expert, primarily responsible for the architecture of complex solutions and the implementation of demanding backend development in client projects. Working closely with the Head of Delivery, you bring technical clarity, strong systems thinking, and the ability to translate abstract requirements into scalable, robust architectures.
You define the technical direction and standards, support backend engineers in architectural and implementation decisions, and ensure a clean, consistent technical implementation. In highly complex projects, you are the technical backbone, enabling the team to deliver reliable and well-designed solutions.

Tasks

Technical Architecture & Solution Design

• Translation of professional and business requirements into clear technical specifications.

• Architecture of scalable backend solutions, integrations and system components.

• Technical design of complex features and integration-intensive requirements.

• Review and validation of key architectural and technology decisions across multiple projects.

Engineering guidance & delivery support

• Professional guidance and technical orientation for backend engineers regarding patterns, best practices and architectural decisions.

• Hands-on support for complex implementations, debugging, and technical blockers.

• Documentation of architectural decisions and technical concepts for clean implementation within the team.

• Supporting project managers in discovery, scoping, and feasibility phases.

• Close collaboration with all participating teams to ensure a predictable and high-quality delivery.

Innovation & Technological Development

• Contributing to internal tools, prototypes and app development when capacity is available.

• Research and evaluation of new technologies, tools and patterns in the Shopify and backend environment.

• Derivation and recommendation of improvements for system architecture and development processes.

• Active development of engineering standards and backend maturity level within the team.

• Technical responsibility and architectural leadership for Radikal's internal tools and proprietary applications.

• Ensuring that internal apps are designed and developed in a scalable, secure, maintainable and cleanly documented manner.

• Use of AI tools to support development, debugging, documentation and code quality while maintaining clean, maintainable implementations.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years of professional experience as a frontend, backend or full-stack engineer in an agency or e-commerce environment with in-depth practical Shopify experience.

• Expert knowledge in Shopify architecture, including Liquid, theme architecture, Shopify APIs (REST & GraphQL), checkout extensibility and app integrations.

• Excellent knowledge of modern frontend technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript); experience with React, headless Shopify setups or custom storefront architectures is a strong plus.

• Proven experience in the architecture and implementation of complex Shopify migrations (e.g., from Shopware, Magento, or custom systems), including data models, integrations, and performance aspects.

• Deep understanding of system integrations (ERP, PIM, WMS, marketplaces, third-party services) including data flows, error handling and long-term maintainability.

• Excellent understanding of performance optimization, scalability, security and reliability in high-traffic e-commerce systems.

• Ability to translate business requirements into clear technical architectures and to communicate complex technical decisions in an understandable way to developers, project managers and non-technical stakeholders.

• Experience in defining technical standards, reviewing architectural decisions, and providing technical leadership to engineers across multiple parallel projects.

• Security in a senior advisory role with a willingness to get hands-on experience in complex technical issues when needed.

• Experience in the responsible use of AI-supported tools to assist with system design, analysis, documentation, debugging and code reviews without compromising architecture or code quality.

• Fluent German (C2) and good English skills (at least B2).
