Shopify Payments
Shopify Payments is Shopify's built-in payment service. It processes credit cards, Apple Pay, Klarna and other payment methods directly in the store, without an external payment provider.
Shopify Payments is natively integrated into the admin and checkout: payouts, fees, refunds and chargebacks are all managed inside Shopify. It supports the usual payment methods — credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna — plus additional local options depending on the market. Shop Pay, the accelerated checkout, requires Shopify Payments.
The economic core point: with Shopify Payments, the additional transaction fees Shopify charges per order when you use an external payment provider do not apply. For most merchants that makes Shopify Payments the cheapest and simplest option, complemented by PayPal, which can run alongside it.
Worth checking are payout cycles, business verification requirements (KYC) and the industries excluded from Shopify Payments. In those cases — or when negotiating special rates at high volume — an external PSP like Adyen or Mollie can make sense, with Shopify's transaction fee factored into the calculation.
