    02Goals & Requirements

Feature scope, design requirements, and scaling goals are defined together.

    03Data Migration

Export from Magento, preparation, and clean import of all products, variants, customers, and orders into Shopify.

    04Design & Store Structure

Transfer or redesign of the design. Optimization of navigation, collections, and checkout.

    SEO & Rankings

Do your rankings stay intact during the migration?

With every migration, we ensure clean 301 redirects, URL mapping, and indexing control. Existing rankings and organic traffic are protected - not sacrificed.

    Process

How do we protect data and rankings during the move?

    1. 01

Decide the data model before the import

Attributes, attribute sets, configurable products and customer groups are mapped onto products, variants, metafields and catalogues. These decisions come before the import, because they determine the handles and therefore the later redirects.

    2. 02

      Build the URL inventory

Existing addresses are pulled together from the sitemap, Search Console, analytics and a crawl of our own, including pages that are only linked externally. The list is built out of the Magento catalogue, not from a sample.

    3. 03

Map one to one, not to a catch-all

Every old URL gets a target that matches it in content. No catch-all redirect to the home page, no redirect chains. Permanent moves are signalled with a 301, because a 302 keeps the old address in the index.

    4. 04

      Dry run before go-live

The complete redirect list is checked against the staging environment: target status, target content and load behaviour. On top of that come full test orders across all payment methods and checks on load times and mobile rendering.

    5. 05

      Adjust after the launch

After go-live we watch the indexing reports and crawl stats and fix any 404s that surface straight away. A change of address brings fluctuating positions with it; lasting losses only come from missing redirects.

    Fit

Is moving off Magento your next step right now?

Then you are starting in the right place

The store creates high running costs

Hosting, security patches, extensions and development tie up budget you would rather put into range, marketing and optimisation.

    Development cycles are too slow

New features take weeks instead of days. Every idea gets sized down to the effort instead of the value, and business teams file a ticket for every change.

    Internal technical resources are missing

Without specialised developers the store stands still. Depending on a handful of people is an operational risk, especially when extensions have to be reworked after every patch.

    Growth or internationalisation is coming

New markets, more traffic or a larger catalogue meet a system whose performance and stability are already a topic.

Then something else will do more for you

The platform decision is still open

As long as it is not settled whether Shopify is the right target platform, a migration project is premature. The decision is between control and operational load, and it belongs on the table first.

    To the platform comparison

    The project risks are unclear

You want to move but do not know which data, features and URLs become critical in the process. Then the review comes before the project.

    To the migration audit

    Your wholesale runs on negotiation

If quotes, multi-step approvals and budget controls are the regular route to an order, the B2B setup needs settling before the move is planned.

    To Shopify B2B

    You are already on Shopify

If only the theme, structure or design no longer holds up, you do not need a platform move but a rebuild on the platform you are already on.

How can we work on the migration together?

Whether you first want to know what a move actually means, want the migration delivered, or want to keep optimising afterwards - that gives three shapes of collaboration.

    Analysis & inventory

    Who it is for

For merchants facing the decision who want to know what actually has to be migrated out of their Magento store.

    What is included
    • Inventory of store structure and product data
    • Capture of customer and order history
    • Feature scope and scaling goals defined together
    How it ends

Ends with an overview of what the move means for your store in concrete terms - data, features and open points.

    Migration & go-live

    Who it is for

For merchants who have decided to move and want the migration, including data, design and launch, delivered with them.

    What is included
    • Export from Magento and clean import of all products, variants, customers and orders
    • 301 redirects and complete URL mapping
    • Test orders, payment methods and mobile rendering before go-live
    How it ends

Ends with a controlled launch and monitoring through the first hours.

    Post-launch optimisation

    Who it is for

For stores already on Shopify that now want to turn the launch into performance and conversion.

    What is included
    • Indexation checks via Google Search Console
    • Performance optimisation after launch
    • Conversion optimisation based on the first real data
    How it ends

Produces a store that does not just run after the move but measurably works better than before.

    FAQ

Common questions about the Magento migration

Is data lost when migrating from Magento to Shopify?

Not if the export is prepared beforehand. Products, variants, customers and orders are exported from Magento, prepared and imported into the Shopify data structure. Attributes, attribute sets and customer groups are given a target in products, variants, metafields and catalogues up front. At Sirocco, over 40,000 customer records came across along with the complete order history.

    Will I lose my rankings?

A change of address almost always brings a phase of fluctuating positions, because search engines first have to assign the new addresses. Lasting losses do not come from the move itself, though, but from missing redirects, thinner target pages and catch-all redirects to the home page. Building the redirect list out of the Magento catalogue usually gets you through cleanly.

What happens to custom-built Magento features?

They are assessed one by one. Some can be replaced by native Shopify features, apps, Functions or metafields, some have to be rebuilt. The honest test is your backlog: if the special requests are mostly pricing rules, shipping logic and data enrichment, Shopify is enough. If they touch the order object or the catalogue model, that belongs before the build.

Why move away from Magento at all?

Usually from two directions. Technically, your own server administration, hosting and version upgrades as planned projects fall away. Commercially, running development and maintenance costs drop along with your dependency on specialised developers. The most common concrete trigger is Magento 1: it has had no official support for years, the store lives on agency patches, and you carry the risk yourself.

Is Magento called Adobe Commerce today?

Partly. The commercial edition is sold as Adobe Commerce and includes, among other things, the deep B2B feature set and the managed cloud variant. Alongside it, Magento Open Source still exists as a freely available version with public development. When someone says Magento, it is worth asking which of the two they mean.

Can Shopify handle our B2B business at all?

In many cases yes. Company profiles, customer-specific price catalogues, payment terms and order approvals cover classic wholesale. The limit is negotiated business: quotes, multi-step approvals and budget controls are native on Adobe Commerce and an integration topic on Shopify. So check first how your customers actually order, not which features appear on a datasheet.

How is it tested before go-live?

With complete test orders. All payment methods, load times and mobile rendering are checked. In parallel, the full redirect list runs against the staging environment: target status, target content and load behaviour of every redirect. The launch itself is controlled, with monitoring through the first hours and an eye on indexing reports and any 404s that surface.
