    Scope of Services

Which services are part of Shopify development?

    Custom Theme Development

No off-the-shelf template. We build Shopify themes from scratch - pixel-perfect to your design system, optimized for performance and conversion.

    Theme Optimization & Refactoring

Existing theme too slow or hard to maintain? We analyze, clean up, and optimize - without changing the look.

    Shopify Plus Customization

Checkout extensions, B2B features, multi-store setups, and script logic - we fully leverage all Shopify Plus capabilities.

    Why Custom

Why do standard themes cost you revenue?

    Generic UX

Standard themes are built for everyone - and therefore optimized for no one.

    Performance Issues

Many themes load unnecessary code. Custom themes are lean and fast.

    Limited Flexibility

As soon as you deviate from the theme standard, every update becomes a risk.

    No Real Design System

Without your own system, inconsistent pages emerge that cost conversion.

    Tailored UX

Every section is aligned to your audience and your conversion goals. Page structure and conversion flows are defined before the design, not forced into a finished template afterwards.

    Maximum Performance

Only the code that is actually needed. The unused features a stock theme ships with are never built in the first place - which shows directly in load time and Core Web Vitals.

    Full Control

Your theme, your rules, no vendor lock-in. You get clean, documented Liquid code your team or another agency can keep working with without us.

    Consistent Design System

Components, typography and colours are defined once as a system and reused everywhere. New landing pages come out of existing building blocks instead of being one-offs.

    Controlled go-live and complete documentation.

    Shopify Plus

What can you additionally build with Shopify Plus?

    Checkout Extensions

Your own building blocks at the positions the checkout provides, plus server-side logic through Shopify Functions - instead of touching checkout.liquid

    B2B & Wholesale

Company profiles, catalogs per customer group and price lists as a percentage or a fixed price - natively in the same store as your D2C business

    Multi-Store & Internationalization

Multiple stores, languages and countries from a central admin, mapped through markets, subfolders or dedicated domains

    Metaobjects & Custom Data

Flexible data structures for complex product information that would otherwise need extra apps or improvised fields

A theme that works for your business

    Distinctive brand

A tailored storefront experience instead of an interchangeable off-the-shelf theme.

    Fast and stable

Clean theme code keeps load times short and the buying journey reliable.

    Easy to extend

Reusable sections and components support new campaigns without rebuilding every time.

    Process

How does a theme project run with us?

    1. 01

      Look at what exists

We look at your current store: which templates carry the revenue, where conversion potential is being wasted, and which weight comes out of the existing theme.

    2. 02

      Sharpen the scope

We clarify which part of the storefront is actually stuck and how much of that a theme solves. Scope often shrinks noticeably here - anything beyond the theme is separated out as an app question.

    3. 03

      Work in a theme copy

Changes are built in a theme copy and tested and documented one at a time. That keeps the effect of each change traceable, and nothing breaks in the live store.

    4. 04

      Check before go-live

Core Web Vitals, mobile rendering and behaviour across browsers are checked before anything goes live. We do not test the happy path only.

    5. 05

      Go-live and handover

The go-live is controlled, not a big bang. Afterwards you get documented Liquid code and a full handover your team can keep working with without us.

    Fit

Is a custom theme your next step right now?

Then you are starting in the right place

You are running an off-the-shelf theme

A stock theme is built for everyone and therefore optimised for no one. Your sections do not reflect your audience or your buying decision.

Every update turns into a risk

Once you have deviated from the theme standard, any theme update can overwrite your changes. Adjustments take longer than they should.

The theme loads code you do not need

Many themes ship features you never use. The code still loads and shows up in load time and conversion.

Your pages look different from each other

Without your own design system, every new landing page produces inconsistent components. That costs trust, and with it conversion.

Then something else will do more for you

The feature sits beyond the theme

Admin interfaces, your own data processes or checkout logic are not solved by a theme. That is an app question, not a theme question.

    To Shopify app development

Traffic is there, orders are not

If your product and category pages already have visitors who do not buy, conversion is the topic - not the theme underneath.

    To CRO & conversion optimisation

This is about issues in daily operations

If what you mainly need is maintenance, incident fixing and small improvements, rebuilding the theme is the wrong lever.

    To support & maintenance
    Engagement

How can we work on your theme together?

Whether you are building new, fixing an existing theme or want to use more of Shopify Plus - that gives three shapes of collaboration.

    Custom theme development

    Who it is for

For brands whose requirements a stock template no longer carries - and who want their theme built from the ground up on their own design system.

    • UX and wireframes before the design
    • Design system of components, typography and colours
    • Documented Liquid code with QA and performance tests
    How it ends

Ends with a controlled go-live and a handover your team can keep working with without us.

    Theme optimisation & refactoring

    Who it is for

    What is included
    • Analysis of the existing theme
    • Removal of unnecessary code
    • Core Web Vitals, mobile rendering and cross-browser checks
    How it ends

For stores on Shopify Plus that only use part of the platform today and want to build out specific areas.

    What is included
    • Checkout extensions and custom logic
    • Customer groups, price lists and B2B structures
    • Metaobjects for complex product information
    How it ends

    FAQ

    Common questions about Shopify development

When is a custom theme worth it over a stock theme?

As soon as you regularly deviate from the theme standard. Stock themes are built for everyone and ship code you do not need. From the point where every change creates an update risk and your sections no longer match your buying decision, your own theme becomes cheaper than constantly rebuilding inside someone else's system.

Do I have to rebuild my theme if it is too slow?

Not necessarily. We first analyse where the weight comes from. Unused code and superfluous scripts can often be removed without changing the look. A rebuild is worth it mainly when structure, design system and maintainability no longer hold up either.

What belongs to a design system?

Components, typography and colours are defined once as a system and then reused everywhere. The benefit does not show on launch day but afterwards: new landing pages come out of existing building blocks instead of being one-offs, and your pages stay consistent.

What do I get after launch?

Clean, documented Liquid code and a full handover. It is your theme, with no vendor lock-in - your team or another agency can keep working with it.

What do you check before go-live?

Core Web Vitals, mobile rendering and behaviour across browsers. The go-live itself is controlled, not a big bang.

What does Shopify Plus add for development?

Mainly access to areas that stay closed otherwise. Customisations inside the checkout steps run through checkout UI extensions and Shopify Functions and are tied to Plus. On top of that come the native B2B features with company profiles, catalogs and price lists, as well as multi-store and multi-country setups from a central admin.

How long does a theme project take?

That depends on the scope of the design system and any special logic, not on the Shopify setup itself. A theme with a clear section structure is finished far sooner than one with checkout extensions, B2B structures and connected third-party systems. So we only give a reliable estimate once scope and system landscape have been reviewed.

Ready for a theme that truly performs?

We analyze your current store for free and show you where conversion potential is being wasted.
