Shopify POS
Shopify POS is Shopify's point-of-sale system for physical retail. It connects store and online shop with shared products, inventory and customer data.
Shopify POS (point of sale) runs as an app on an iPad or smartphone and pairs with hardware such as card terminals, receipt printers and barcode scanners. The decisive advantage over traditional POS systems: POS and online store share one product catalog, inventory, customers and discount logic in a single system — no interfaces to maintain.
That makes omnichannel processes genuinely practical: click and collect, ordering in-store with home delivery, returning online purchases in the store, cross-channel gift cards and one unified customer profile across every touchpoint.
Local fiscal requirements deserve early attention in any retail rollout: in Germany, for example, POS systems must be paired with a certified technical security device (TSE) under the cash register security regulation. Requirements like these should be planned in from the start, not retrofitted.
